We wish you a safe and lovely 2021! Hopefully you've had a much needed rest over the last week or two.
I've had a couple of weeks off game development - the lead up to Christmas was very busy with my day job so I needed some time off to recharge my batteries. John has been busy working on some new backgrounds and character animations for INCANTAMENTUM. This is particularly exciting as John has started working on the backgrounds for the final section of the game - a great milestone.
So where is INCANTAMENTUM at? The game is playable from the beginning to ALMOST the end in a very rough barebones sort of way. Beyond what you can play in the demo, there is very little dialogue written yet but the structure for most of the puzzles and gameplay has been programmed. I always like writing the dialogue at the end, as by that point you can really see how everything clicks together in terms of the overall narrative and what needs to be said where and when. John has also finished a majority of the main character animations needed for the game too. So we are at a position where things can start falling into place nicely. However, due to our day job commitments over the next few months, the game is still a little way off. Covid has brought new challenges to both of our day jobs which has meant much less time to work on INCANTAMENTUM than we were envisioning a year ago. Needless to say though, we'll be working as hard as we can to finish the game and get it out as soon as we are able to!
In other news, Sumatra: Fate of Yandi is coming soon to consoles thanks to our dear friends at Ratalaika Games. Very exciting indeed! More news on that in the next few weeks.
2020 was an awful year personally for both John and I, with many health and work problems taking up a lot of our time and energy. I think the world breathed a sigh of relief when the year ended. Many challenges still lay ahead for 2021, but we enter it with a renewed sense of optimism. Most of all, we wish you good health and safety in this crazy world, and thank you very much for your continued support.
